Mario Kart is becoming its own LEGO toyline, but building a Grand Prix won’t be exactly cheap
LEGO has confirmed the release date and prices for the official Mario Kart sets in collaboration with Nintendo, and it won’t be cheap.
Mario Kart was already a successful international franchise before the arrival of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Nintendo Switch. However, the relaunch of the Wii U installment broke all expectations. By June 30, 2024, the title has managed to overcome the barrier of 60 million copies sold, making it the best-selling Nintendo Switch game. Therefore, it is logical that companies like LEGO are interested in getting the license for their benefit.
The announcement for this new Nintendo collaboration was made during Gamescom 2024. At the moment 6 sets have been confirmed, most focused on characters and their corresponding karts. This LEGO line incorporates interactive functionalities with its pieces. When you ride a character in their kart you will be able to hear sound effects. The starter set’s finish line also includes the classic sounds at the start of the races. All of them will go on sale on January 1, 2025. Below we leave you with the sets and their prices.
In total, to set up a Grand Prix with at least six riders and a reserve kart you will have to invest $219.94. Surprisingly, Mario is not included in this first batch of sets. His kart is, but the only version we will have of the plumber is Baby, like his brother Luigi and Princess Peach.
