Mark Hamill’s (Luke Skywalker) emotional reaction to the death of James Earl Jones (the voice of Darth Vader)
The news of the death of James Earl Jones spread around the world on Monday, September 9, 2024. Many colleagues and cast members from throughout the interpreter’s six decades of career made posts on social networks lamenting the death of this veteran actor.
Nevertheless, one of them stands out above the others: that of Mark Hamill, Who was his “son” in the ‘Star Wars’ saga, given that Hamill played Luke Skywalker, the son of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, who was voiced by James Earl Jones in films and other material related to them such as various video games for forty years.
In his Instagram account, he also published a somewhat more elaborate farewell message. “One of the world’s finest actors whose contributions to Star Wars were immeasurable. He’ll be greatly missed. #RIP dad.” The message already has thousands of replies.
These dizzying numbers attest to both how beloved Jones was and how linked his role was to the figure of Darth Vader and his relationship with Luke Skywalker. The performance of this voice actor achieved, on its own merits, that Vader is considered one of the best villains of all time not only in the field of cinema but in all of fiction in general.
