The Philadelphia actor, who played Hector Salamanca on Breaking Bad, died Thursday at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York.
Mark Margolis, the actor best known for playing Hector Salamanca on Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, died Thursday at the age of 83.
The actor, also known for playing Alberto the Shadow in Scarface, died after a brief illness that landed him at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York, according to his son, Morgan Margolis, The Hollywood Reporter notes.
Who was Morgan Margolis?
The actor was born in 1939 in Philadelphia, United States. At the age of 19 he was a student of Stella Adler at the Actors Studio in New York, where he also worked as her personal assistant.
As mentioned above, one of his most recent roles, and the one for which he is certainly most remembered, is that of Héctor Salamanca in Breaking Bad, a series that will celebrate its 15th anniversary in 2023. Margolis reprised his role in Better Call Saul, a prequel and sequel to the previous series. He was one of the bosses of the (fictional) Salamanca family, a criminal syndicate involved in very shady business, with which both Walter White and Saul Goodman deal. Margolis’ portrayal of Salamanca was so remarkable that it earned him an Emmy nomination for the role. Interestingly, despite playing a Mexican character, Margolis did not speak Spanish.
He has over 162 credits on IMDB and has appeared in 6 Darren Aronofsky films including Pi (1998), Requiem for a Dream (2000), The Wrestler (2008) and Black Swan (2010). In addition to the aforementioned series and films, he has had roles in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, OZ, Star Trek: The Next Generation and Law & Order. He even had a video game credit in Rockstar Games’ Manhunt.
May he rest in peace.
