Marvel compares ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ with ‘Game of Thrones’ with warring factions, violence, and darkness
It seems like ‘Daredevli: Born Again’ is aiming to be a dark and epic look into the underworld of New York City in the MCU.
Conquering Westeros is the main theme of ‘Game of Thrones’, the HBO series based on the ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ novels by George R. R. Martin. In that story, different families compete to improve their position and climb the hierarchy of power. They all use very different tactics, but violence is one of the most recurrent. In this context, Brad Winderbaum, Marvel producer, has drawn a comparison between ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ and the series by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. In the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen’s New York, different forces try to control the city at all costs. And yes, they use violence a lot.
“Imagine if New York City was as intricate and problematic and scary as the world of Game of Thrones,” Winderbaum said. “All these forces vying for control, and it can be really hopeful at times, and really violent at times, and dark-but also there’s light at the end of the tunnel if you could just fight for it.”
A constant struggle for power
Little light remains in ‘Game of Thrones’. Most battles are fought solely for control and power. At the time the story begins, the Targaryen family has been overthrown, so the conqueror Robert Baratheon sits on the Iron Throne. Upon his death, his children inherit the crown, although in reality, it is left to the Lannisters. Daennerys Targaryen survived the purge of her family, which puts her on the path to reclaiming her throne, a motivation that is reinforced from the precise moment she manages to hatch a trio of dragon eggs and bring the creatures back into the world.
‘Daredevil: Born Again’ premieres in March on Disney+. Charlie Cox returns as the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen in a series that has been rewritten to accommodate the narrative to the characters of the original Netflix show.
