Marvel Rivals is earning the attention of Marvel fans and gamers alike with some impressive looks at its gameplay, teases of a larger story, and its most adorable character yet.

Marvel Rivals gets a new story trailer as Closed Beta starts, reveals Thor and Jeff the Landshark

During San Diego Comic-Con 2024, NetEase games showed off a pair of new trailers for Marvel Rivals that revealed not only an exciting story for the multiplayer game, but also its two new additions to the character roster, who will be playable during the current Closed Beta as well as once the game fully launches.

During a Marvel Games presentation, the developer behind the game started off by showing the trailer below, which reveals what seems to be an exciting story that gives context to the super hero clashes that make up every match of this multi-player shooter. It appears to be all thanks to the never-ending ego of Doctor Doom, who besides obtaining unthinkable multiversal powers, now seems to have picked a fight with none other than… another Doctor Doom from an alternate universe!

Honestly, fans of Marvel comics know very well that if anyone was set to be behind the clashing of universes and making superheroes fight each other to save their respective worlds, Doctor Doom was going to be the best option. Besides, the fact that it all seems to stem from an ego fight between two Dooms is very accurate to the character.

Even more heroes are joining the figh-IT’S JEFF THE LANDSHARK!

While the trailer gives us some impressive looks at Peni Parker, Iron Man, Rocket, Magik, and Doctor Doom himself, alongside impressive fights and teases of what could come later on after release, it also reveals how this Thor will look. And it’s impressive and imposing.

Full screen

Thor (once again voiced by Travis Willingham) seems to be an older, more stoic version of the character than what we’ve seen before in the comics. And to match, he seems to be presented as an absolute giant, towering over his companions and facing off against Loki. But the end of the trailer also gives us some excellent news by revealing that another hero, one that is a lot less recognizable but just as powerful as Thor, is also joining the fight: Jeff the Landshark.

This adorable little guy is a character introduced with the West Coast Avengers, who became their pet after Gwen Poole adopted the little guy. He’s since starred in tiny and adorable adventures, but mostly he’s there because he’s adorable. And it seems like his Marvel Rivals version does not disappoint. What will be his role in fights? What are his abilities? Will he turn the tide of battle? Who cares, look at the little guy dance and sing!
