Marvel’s Avengers gets its final update: turns the entire store free, reduces grinding

Crystal Dynamics gets ready to end support of Marvel’s Avengers with a final patch that cuts down on the gameplay chores and gifts players with all content.

Marvel’s Avengers received its last update this past March 31. The patch incorporated many changes that make the experience more accessible for every player. The highlight is that the entire in-game store has been unlocked for all players: all costumes, emotes, executions and cosmetic items will be delivered to their accounts for free.

Sun’s getting real low for Marvel’s Avengers

Although the items obtainable from completing campaign missions are still locked until you reach that point in the progression, both the quest system and the hero card challenges have been removed; their respective rewards are part of the same package as the one from the store, so you will not have to complete them to get them anymore.

From now on you will find a permanent 1.5X multiplier on shards and experience gained during gameplay. Higher-level gear from endgame missions will transfer to the player after each completion, instead of taking into account the weekly rotation. Additionally, most resource requirements for upgrading equipment have been reduced.

Among the excellent bunch of fixes is an improvement to the power of all heroes. Crystal Dynamics talks about how this change “will make heroes feel more powerful” in all game content; they don’t specify the changes, but suggest that it will make combat more streamlined. As a parting gift, the team will be offering the “Variable Threat Response Battle Suit” Iron Man skin. You just need to have unlocked a trophy or achievement before April 1st.

The changes come as part of the end of support announced in recent months. Marvel’s Avengers will stop selling in digital stores next September 30, 2023. If you already have a digital copy, you can continue downloading and enjoying its single-player and multiplayer content. Also, physical copies remain unaltered.
