Despite recent box office struggles with titles like 'Captain America: Brave New World’ and 'Thunderbolts*’ (now retitled 'The New Avengers’), Marvel Studios isn’t backing down. In a press briefing at Marvel’s Burbank headquarters, studio president Kevin Feige outlined a bold new strategy that will culminate in a full reboot of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) following 'Avengers: Secret Wars’ in December 2027.

A new era begins with Fantastic Four and Secret Wars

Feige confirmed that 'Fantastic Four will kick off Phase Six and serve as a clean slate:

“It literally has no connection to anything before,” Feige said. “It starts Phase Six. There have been many twists and surprises over the last seven or eight years. One positive was finally getting those characters and the X-Men back”.

The reboot will unify the MCU into a singular timeline, allowing Marvel to recast legacy characters like Iron Man and Captain America. Feige compared the process to other iconic franchises:

“They’re looking for a new James Bond. David Corenswet is the new Superman, and he’s been incredible. That’s always how it works”.

Doctor Doom replaces Kang as the next big villain

Following the controversy surrounding actor Jonathan Majors, Feige revealed that Doctor Doom will take over as the MCU’s central antagonist:

“Even before what happened with the actor, we started realizing Kang wasn’t Thanos. There was only one character who could be: Doctor Doom”.

Feige noted that discussions about Doom began before 'Ant-Man 3′ even premiered.

Blade still in development, but reworked

Feige also addressed the long-delayed 'Blade' reboot starring Mahershala Ali, confirming that the project is still alive but has shifted focus:

“We had four versions in development, including two period pieces. We’ve landed on a modern setting, but we didn’t feel confident enough to move forward until the script was right”.

X-Men will be fully recast

Feige confirmed that the X-Men will be introduced with an entirely new cast, marking a definitive break from the Fox-era films:

“That’s where it will happen,” Feige said, referring to the recasting process.

Feige’s seven-year plan extends through 2032, though he admits it’s flexible. His contract ends in two years, but he’s committed to staying:

“Do I want to keep making big movies for big audiences in 10 or 15 years? Yes. That’s all I want to do. Marvel is a great way to do that”.
