Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 gets an official October release date

Announced during Summer Game Fest, Sony and Insomniac Games joined Geoff Keighley on the stage to talk about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Apart from sharing some amazing concept art and images of two of the game’s villains (Kraven the Hunter and Venom), the developer also revealed that the game will launch on PlayStation 5 on October 20, 2023.

While we didn’t get any extra gameplay this time, we did get some hints that our Spider-Men may not be the only Marvel characters we see this time when we return to New York. While in the first game we did see the Avengers Tower as one of the landmarks of the city, could it be that this time its inhabitants actually make an appearance?.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: the “Empire Strikes Back” of video games

A few months ago, the vice president of Marvel Games, Bill Roseman, referred with those words to this sequel, which he described as a much darker game that will put its protagonists backs against the wall. Although they might seem like statements that only serve to put pressure on Insomniac, the truth is that they are not the only ones around the project and they are all going in the same direction. Confidence in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is full from everywhere. “They know that they have a very high bar because of the previous two, but they have exceeded all of it”, declared Yuri Lowenthal, the actor who plays Peter Parker.

We recently saw the game in action for the first time at the PlayStation Showcase, where The Insomniac Games title was in charge of closing the event and did so by clearing up some of the doubts that existed around it. On the one hand, it is clear that it will not have cooperative multiplayer andwe’ll control both Peter Parker and Miles Morales. We’ll switch between them the way you switch characters in GTA V.

And let’s remember that not content with being in charge of a project of this magnitude, Insomniac is also working on another heavyweight. We’re talking about the highly anticipated Marvel’s Wolverine, a new Wolverine adventure for which until now we barely have a teaser trailer and the promise of a darker and more mature game with a script by the writer of Spec Ops: The Line, Walt Williams. Too bad we didn’t also have it in this PlayStation Showcase.
