Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s New Game Plus mode has been delayed until “early 2024”

Insomniac Games has announced that Marvel Spider-Man 2′s NG+ mode won’t arrive on time this year, citing that they need more testing to reach their quality standards.

Insomniac Games went home with their hands empty after The Game Awards 2023. Despite being nominated in multiple categories, including GOTY, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 did not win any statuettes. Just a few days later, the studio has confirmed that it needs a little more time to work on developing the next update, which will add one of the most requested features by the community, a New Game+ mode. So when will it be released? The goal is for it to be ready at the beginning of 2024.

Through a statement on Twitter/X, the studio explained that the update will have to undergo more tests, a common practice within developers meant to avoid bugs and other serious problems.

Why is this Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 update being delayed?

“We have some news about the next game update for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2″ they said in the statement. “We know players have been eagerly awaiting features such as New Game Plus and audio descriptions, among many more. We have been working vigilantly on these features and require more testing to ensure the quality is up to our standards.”

According to the statement, their goal is to release the patch in “early 2024,” without specifying a more specific date. “We’ll have a feature-complete list closer to its release”, they clarified. Insomniac Games has also noted that it has listened to player requests regarding other features, such as the ability to change the hours of the day or the option to repeat missions. “We can’t wait to share more with you in the future. In the meantime, we appreciate your patience as our team works to finish our next update for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2!”

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which is available exclusively for PS5, is one of the biggest releases of 2023. The new adventure starring Peter Parker and Miles Morales improves on what the the first two titles established in almost every aspect, offering hours and hours of fun in the Big Apple.

Insomniac Games is also working on the upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine, which does not yet have a release date. On the other hand, Arkane Studios—creators of Dishonored 2— will try their luck with Marvel’s Blade, which was just announced during The Game Awards 2023.
