Marvel’s ‘What If…?’ Season 2 gets a new trailer, setting the stage for its holiday-time release

The MCU delves once again into its purest version of the multiverse with a new trailer for ‘What If…?’ season 2, with quick looks at what to expect from Marvel’s alternate histories and worlds.

Update:
Marvel’s ‘What If…?’ Season 2 gets a new trailer, setting the stage for its holiday-time release

After the resounding success of the first season, it was just a matter of time before Marvel Studios returned to the anthology format of ‘What If…?’. Now, after months of silence, a new trailer for the show’s second season has been released, and everything points to it being another exciting look at the Marvel Multiverse from an MCU point of view.

You can find the trailer below, but if you missed the first season, this show actually works as a sort of anthology series. Its shorter stories show off alternate versions of the MCU’s heroes and villains, all bound together by The Watcher (Jeffrey Wright), an all-seeing being that guards the many stories happening all around with minimal interference. Of course, at the end of the first season these seemingly unrelated worlds end up converging for an extremely clever conclusion, and season 2 seems like it’ll keep the train rolling.

The kind of multiverse the MCU actually needs

From alternate versions of Black Panther, Ant-Man, and Doctor Strange, to previously unseen team-ups, and even an all-original superhero that is making its Marvel debut through this series, no one can really be sure what to expect from ‘What If…?’. But what we can be sure is that this is what fans hoped for when the Multiverse Saga was originally announced by Kevin Feige.

The appearance of variants of every character means that fan favorites can return, and we’re not only talking about big names like Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Hela (Cate Blanchett), who respectively died at the end of their movies. Other characters from the MCU like Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) and Darcy (Kat Dennings) are able to get their moments to shine, getting development and even returning after seemingly getting put aside in the main timeline.

Whatever happens during this second season of the show, we’ll be able to find out when the show premieres in Disney Plus on December 22, 2023. It’s the perfect time to sit down and enjoy a lazy holiday with some fun Marvel movies, and with everything going on right now with the MCU’s big releases who knows how big of an impact it might actually end up being.
