Matt Reeves Reveals Real Reason For ‘The Batman 2’ Delay, Already Thinking About ‘The Penguin 2
The director of Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight universe assures that filming will begin this very 2025, despite a 2027 release date.

‘The Batman 2′ is one of the most anticipated superhero films since the acclaimed release of the first installment. The dark and noir universe - more realistic than fantastical - proposed by Matt Reeves, with an ominous Batman in his early years under the direction of Robert Pattinson, convinced DC fans who had doubts about the casting and tone of the series. It was recently confirmed that the release date had been pushed back by a whole year to autumn 2027. An announcement raised doubts about the viability of the project and the possible influence of James Gunn in relation to his new DCU. Now Matt Reeves has revealed the real reason for the delay: “There’s a lot of stuff going on in my life.”
Why has ‘The Batman 2′ been delayed again?
Well, ‘The Batman 2′ has recently been postponed from October 2, 2026, to October 1, 2027: no more and no less than one year, and if this new date is met, five years will have passed between the first and the second part, and to dispel the doubts of fans and those looking for cospirations, Matt Reeves himself has revealed the real reason for the delay, as well as confirming when the movie will start shooting:

“I can tell you that we’re going to be shooting this year and that we’re excited about it. I can’t really tell you anything about it except that we’re really excited. We’re continuing the story...I’m really excited to be making it, to get our cast back together, to get new people involved, and we’re really excited about it,” Reeves explained on the red carpet at the Golden Globes.
Without going into too much detail, Reeves also explains the real reason for the delay in production, something he was helped with by his good friend Colin Farrell, who plays the Penguin in his own Dark Knight universe: “There’s [been] a lot of stuff going on in my life in the last year or so and he’s been such a good friend. [He’s] such a beautiful man.”
Speaking of The Penguin, Matt Reeves himself has confirmed that there are already talks about a possible second season of The Penguin, taking advantage of the gap left by the distant release of the Batman movie sequel:
“Well, we’re talking about doing another season. Lauren, Dylan, Colin, and I are talking about what we would do. And it’s really about having the right idea and also the right timing. You know, we’re doing ‘The Batman Part II’ and how it all fits together. But we’re really excited about doing another season and we just have to figure out the right idea,” Reeves confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.
