Meet Makarov, the major antagonist of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
Makarov joins the reboot cast as the major antagonist of Modern Warfare 3. Who is he?
“The danger we face is clear and present. This is not a threat. Not an ‘if’ but ‘when.’ A force of evil, who seeks to tear the world apart, piece by piece. To him, every ally is a weapon, every bystander a shield. We don’t know his next target. But we know ours.” With these words, Captain Price introduces us to the great antagonist of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, an old face from the originals that now jumps into the reboot to sow terror.
Makarov in Modern Warfare 3: the background of the feared enemy
Makarov represents the “ultimate threat” to law enforcement. After appeasing the Al-Qatala cell and its collaboration with the Mexican cartel Las Almas in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the Russian stands as the great director of the smokescreen that hides the true intentions of the forces of evil.
Veterans of the franchise will be well aware of the terrorist’s intentions. Vladimir Makarov turned the plot of the original Modern Warfare 2 on its head. Back in 2009, when the masses were still sensitive to what could be done in the video game, Infinity Ward made him the protagonist of the most controversial playable scene in the history of the saga. The “No Russian” transcended public opinion. His attack in the middle of the airport and our participation with a trigger against civilians put the franchise in the spotlight.
It seems that history is repeating itself, and that is that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will reimagine the scene from a different perspective. We’ve already seen the famous tagline in a text message during the first big official trailer. His letter of introduction will be a big attack that will put Task Force 141 on maximum alert, made up of such illustrious characters as Captain Price himself, Ghost and Soap, among others.
In his presentation trailer linked to this year’s delivery, an even more hostile character is drawn. He is shown being escorted through an unspecified prison, where the most feared inmates collapse at his appearance. The tattoos on his body tell a story of patriotism and revenge against the West, which he will put into practice during the campaign mode.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 launches on November 10th for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.
