Update:

Mega evolutions keep popping up, anticipating the arrival of the next Pokémon title, Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Last week, we saw a teaser with all the vibes of a horror movie to introduce us to Mega Victreebel, and this week, the big fight between the Fighting-type pocket monsters Machamp and Hawlucha was announced, where the latter revealed its mega evolution.

In a short 4-minute clip, which you can watch above, we see the presentation of this stellar fight, where Hawlucha’s strong bond with her trainer allows her to transform into Mega Hawlucha. If this Pokémon is already a great representation of Mexican wrestling, its mega evolution adds even more detail to all the elements that a gladiator in the ring, turned public idol, must have. From a cape with a golden breastplate to a much more elaborate wrestling mask, all in shades of gold, as well as plumage around the waist that simulates a belt, all the elements that enrich Mega Hawlucha are more than enough to get excited about.

A special event in Mexico

To celebrate the upcoming release of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Mexico will host a very special event. In a partnership between The Pokémon Company International and the Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre, four exhibition matches will be held on September 25 at the Arena México, featuring top-ranked wrestlers. If you can’t attend, the event will also be streamed on the official Pokémon and CMLL YouTube channels.

A preview of what lies ahead

During our coverage of the 2025 Pokémon World Championships, we had the opportunity to play short demos of Pokémon Legends: Z-A. In this first impressions, we mentioned that the game “makes it clear that Game Freak wants to continue exploring new ways to experience Pokémon. Its more dynamic combat system, combat zone mechanics, and the reintroduction of mega evolutions offer a breath of fresh air that blends nostalgia with the need to reimagine the experience.”

Pokémon Legends: Z-A, which will be available for Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch consoles on October 16, 2025.
