Mega Transformations are back in the new Pokémon TCG expansion, Mega Evolution

A ride back to the sixth and seventh generation of Pokémon.

Update:

The Pokémon Trading Card Game takes a step forward. As teased during Pokémon Day 2025, Mega Evolutions are back in the Pokémon TCG meta. Ahead of the release of Black Fulgor and White Flame next week, The Pokémon Company has revealed the first details of Mega Evolution, the new expansion that will inaugurate a new series in the card game, as well as its release date.

More power in our Pokémon

Mega Evolution brings back an extremely powerful group of Pokémon. These cards will feature increased HP, high-damage attacks-even more than conventional ex Pokémon. Of course, to maintain competitive balance, ex Mega Evolution Pokémon will give away three prize cards when defeated.

An important change is that it will no longer be necessary to go through all the previous evolutionary stages, so it will now be possible to mega-evolve a Riolu directly to Mega-Lucario without going through Lucario.

In addition to bringing back this gameplay mechanic that was present in both Pokémon XY and Pokémon Sun and Moon, players will also find a new art style. Former Mega Evolution Pokémon will also be available in an Ultra Rare rarity, which incorporates the silhouette of the normal version of that Pokémon in the artwork. In addition to these cards, Supporter, Item, Stadium and Tool cards will also be available in Ultra Rare rarity.

What cards can we expect from Mega Evolution?

  • 10 Mega Evolution Pokémon ex
  • 22 illustration rare Pokémon
  • 22 ultra rare Mega Evolution Pokémon ex and Trainer cards
  • 10 special illustration rare Mega Evolution Pokémon ex and Supporter cards

On the other hand, it was announced that before the physical release of this set, Pokémon Trading Card Game Live players will be able to access these from September 11, with its pre-release occurring on September 13. The official launch is scheduled for September 26.
