The latest big star to join the game has to do with sport, specifically football: Messi arrives in Fortnite with two new outfits, and one of them has an impressive additional lion style.

Lionel Messi has arrived in Fortnite in the form of two new outfits with different accessories. This information has gone beyond because all these digital items are currently in the game’s file system. The content will be available in the Fortnite store as of Friday, 13 December 2024 at 7:00 pm ET:

To give you an idea, the current exchange rate in the Fortnite store is $8.99 = 1,000 V-Bucks. These cosmetic items aren’t too out of line with what we’re used to seeing, and can even be considered ‘cheap’ when compared to, say, expected Marvel movie collaborations.
The most striking aspect of Lionel Messi’s outfit is the fact that he can transform himself into a fierce golden lion, thanks to the The Mane Event integrated emote. A great pun to his great sporting legacy, it draws parallels between the figure of the lion as “The Mane Event” and Messi’s status as one of the great kings of football.
This is not the first time the Argentinian, who currently plays for Inter Miami, has chosen to put his face on a video game; his outfit in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Call of Duty Warzone was one of the most talked about during his debut in 2022.
