On July 13, Metal Gear turned 37 years old. The first game in the series was released on MSX2 on July 13, 1987, and to commemorate this anniversary, a fan of the work of Hideo Kojima, when he was still working for Konami, has created a spectacular animation that compiles several memorable moments from the first adventure of Solid Snake.

On 07/13/2024, @BipedalBastard on Twitter/X uploaded an animation to celebrate the thirty-seventh birthday of Metal Gear. The video has since had a very positive reception, with over 38,000 likes and more than 6,000 reposts.

It’s a brief compilation based on previous animations created by this same artist, as we can see by taking a look at his profile.

For example, In this other video, we can see a comparison between several of the most iconic moments of the game and how he animated them, such as Solid Snake’s initial arrival in the armed fortress nation of Outer Heaven, when he finds his first firearm or when he manages to contact Gray Fox.

Mitchell Hammond, which is the author’s name, has been creating original pieces for several years based on different moments from the first video game in the Metal Gear saga created by Hideo Kojima. Given the MSX2 version of this game was never released in the United States, it is not a particularly popular title compared to others like Metal Gear Solid, but thanks to its re-release around the world as an extra for Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence with translated texts, it gained a larger audience than in its original context. This in turn makes Hammond’s videos more unique..

Although the title narrative was reduced due to the limitations of the hardware of the time, In this first video game, many key elements were introduced that would be replicated later. in successive deliveries, making to a certain extent Metal Gear Solid (PSX, 1998) could be considered a kind of remake 3D from the two previous games.

Where to play the first Metal Gear?

The simplest way to play the first MSX2 Metal Gear currently is thanks to the compilation Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1, since it includes it. It was released in late 2023 and is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. This compilation is available in both physical and digital versions and includes Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence.

If for some reason we only want to purchase the original Metal Gear separately, we can do so in digital format, but know that the version of this game included in this pack comes along with its sequel Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, so they are indivisible.
