The first in-game look of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater has given a lot to talk about on social networks. Among them, a particularly attentive user of X/Twitter noted that the remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 recycles some animations from The Phantom Pain.

The remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 in Unreal Engine 5 recycles some animations from Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

In the brief video comparison posted by user @HEITAIs on X/Twitter, we can see how actions such as walking crouched, leaning out of corners or hanging from ledges and then climbing up are practically identical between both games.. From this it follows that Konami would be reusing The Phantom Pain animations, with it being the last title in the saga in which Hideo Kojima participated after his departure from the company. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was released in 2015 on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC and had a prologue in 2014 called Ground Zeroes also available on the same platforms.

This reusing of assets from a previous title in the series itself doesn’t have to be something negative. If something works, why change it? As It happens, it has attracted attention because while the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake uses Unreal Engine 5, The Phantom Pain used the Fox Engine, Konami’s own engine developed by Kojima and his team.

The Fox Engine was basically created for Metal Gear Solid V, but It has been used mainly in titles of the Pro Evolution Soccer series, although Konami eventually stopped using it because Unreal Engine is easier to use. This is another company that has succumbed to the charms and ease of use provided by the Epic Games graphics engine. Another developer that has done it recently has been Croteam, who ruled out the use of its own Serious Engine in The Talos Principle 2.

When does Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater go on sale and what platforms will it be available on?

Konami has not yet given a release date for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. What we do know is that it will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. It is being developed by Konami, with assistance by Virtuos Games, a company specialized in ports and remasters and which has worked on titles such as Dark Souls Remastered.
