Konami
Metal Gear Solid Delta will give Snake permanent scars unique to your playthrough
New details about Metal Gear Solid Delta are being revealed, including a new feature that makes the damage you take persist throughout the entire game.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater caught fans completely by surprise when it resurfaced during the Xbox Games Showcase of Summer 2024, unleashing a new trailer with an extremely good look at the new visuals for the game, courtesy of Unreal Engine 5. But it’s not only new graphics that excite us, as further details have been revealed by Konami since the trailer’s release.
As it turns out, the MGS3 remake will come packed to the brim with details that far surpass that which we saw in the original, all while staying firmly faithful to the source material. From its structure to the voice acting, the developers clearly care highly for the franchise. During a new documentary-style video narrated by Snake himself (actor, writer, and director David Hayter, who voiced the character in every MGS title except MGSV), it’s been revealed that a new Battle Damage system will affect your character’s clothes and body permanently.
That is to say, during each playthrough, as players take damage from combat or the environment they will see it accurately show up on the body. According to Konami, a shot will show up where it hits, and leave a scar or mark that will be present on Snake until the end of that specific playthrough. This of course is an addition to the healing system of the original, in which players have to correctly treat wounds and ailments with a wide variety of resources.
The classic Metal Gear Experience, modernized
Another interesting tidbit of information that was released after the trailer appeared in the showcase is that the game will come with both “Legacy” and “Modern” control and camera configurations. This means that you can play through the entire game as if it were the original, with the same control layout as the PS2 games and the fixed cameras that obscure certain details to keep things tense. However, you can also change to a new POV that places a fully controllable 3rd person camera behind Snake, with modern shooter controls.
It’s not been confirmed whether or not you can change freely between both game modes, but their presence represents an excellent reason to experience the game several times. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC at a still unconfirmed date. There’s already some information about different collectors and deluxe editions of the game.
