Well on the way to becoming Game of the Year, Metaphor: ReFantazio has launched today to impressive sales numbers, already surpassing a million units.

Metaphor ReFantazio Análisis Review

Well, you can file that under “absolute success”. Metaphor: ReFantazio, the new game from Studio Zero and Atlus headed by the director and the vast majority of the team behind the Persona series, launched on Friday, October 11, 2024. And by midday on launch day, it was reported that the game had already sold over 1 million copies around the world, making it the studio’s most successful launch ever.

This was announced through Sega’s official Japanese account, with a special piece of art featuring Gallica, the fairy that companies you throughout the adventure, and a message celebrating the success of the title.

When translated, the post reads: “Atlus’ completely new fantasy RPG “Metaphor: ReFantazio” has surpassed 1 million copies sold worldwide! The game has received high scores on various platforms, including a 93 point score on the PlayStation 5 version ® and a 93 point score on the Metacritic score.”

As mentioned above, the game launched today on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam. It;s this last platform that has allowed us to see more specific numbers, which allows us to see that in the past 10 hours since it was made available, the concurrent player list peaked at 61,969.

Metaphor: ReFantazio is one of the best games of the year, if not the decade

While those are some big fighting words when comparing it to all of the massive hits that have released in the past few months, we believe that Atlus’ newest title is, at the very least, as close to perfection as an RPG can get.

In our review of the game, we said that “from its jaw-dropping world design to the pulse-pounding music and the brain-bending combat, it’s clear this is a game born out of passion and calculated precision. It respects the traditions of JRPGs while fearlessly innovating in every department it’s been allowed to touch. Game of the Year? Yeah, it just might be.”
