Metroid Prime 4: Beyond returns in a big way with breathtaking gameplay
Retro Studios’ game takes center stage at the last Nintendo Direct for the Switch before Nintendo Switch 2.

The rumors are over. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has made a grand return as one of the highlights of the Nintendo Direct held on March 27. The game from Retro Studios looks incredible in its promising gameplay trailer. While it doesn’t yet have a release date, all signs point to an announcement during the unveiling of the Nintendo Switch 2.
The challenging road to Metroid Prime 4's release
The journey to this point hasn’t been easy. The game was initially revealed in 2017, just a few months after the Nintendo Switch launched in March of the same year. At the time, all fans saw was a brief logo fading to black during a presentation filled with big names. But as time went on, the updates weren’t exactly encouraging.
In 2019, Nintendo confirmed that development had changed hands. This time, it was entrusted to its original creators, Retro Studios, who assembled a team packed with veterans from the AAA industry. Finally, in 2024, the first trailer was unveiled. Now with the subtitle Beyond, the game is set to be the last major title for the Nintendo Switch.
Could there be another look at the game during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct? The company has the opportunity to enhance the performance of such intergenerational titles. Perhaps Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will be among the chosen ones to make a big impact during the console’s launch window.
