Microsoft announces Xbox Series X|S price hikes in the United States
The company says the adjustments were made “with careful consideration” amid economic shifts.
It was warned. The tariff situation in the United States continues to drive up prices. As for video games, consoles are manufactured in countries whose current governments have imposed these tariffs, and the most recent ones affected are the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
Microsoft’s support page has announced that, starting October 3, these consoles will see a price increase, acknowledging that these adjustments are “challenging and were made with careful consideration.”
“Beginning on October 3, we will update the recommended retailer pricing for Series S and Series X consoles in the United States due to changes in the macroeconomic environment,” reads the statement. “We understand that these changes are challenging, and they were made with careful consideration. Looking ahead, we continue to focus on offering more ways to play more games across any screen and providing value for Xbox players.”
The new prices for the Xbox Series X and Series S in the United States
This is the list of Xbox Series consoles currently on the market, with their current price and the price they will receive starting October 3:
- Xbox Series S 512GB - From $379.99 to $399.99
- Xbox Series S 1TB - From $429.99 to $449.99
- Xbox Series X Digital - From $549.99 to $599.99
- Xbox Series X - From $599.99 to $649.99
- Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition - From $729.99 to $799.99
For players looking to buy a new Xbox console, the new prices mean a slightly higher barrier to entry. The price increase on the more affordable Xbox Series S models is a flat $20, while the more powerful Xbox Series X models will see a more significant jump. For example, the standard Xbox Series X will now cost $649.99, a $50 increase from its previous price. The most substantial increase is for the Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition, which will go up by $70, bringing its new price to $799.99.
As mentioned above, these prices will only affect the United States and will not be reflected in other countries. Additionally, it is worth noting that other console accessories, such as controllers and headsets, will be affected by the increases for now.
