Mike Colter opens the door to Luke Cage’s return to the MCU: “I have unfinished business”
The actor admits his stance has changed after years away from the role.

After years of playing it cool and downplaying a potential return, Mike Colter is finally giving fans of the Marvel street-level universe a reason to be optimistic. The actor, who portrayed the bulletproof hero Luke Cage across two seasons on Netflix, recently shared that he has been in active discussions about bringing the character back into the fold of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Speaking on Shawn Stockman’s On That Note podcast, Colter admitted that his perspective on the role has shifted significantly. Without committing to anything concrete, Colter said that “conversations” had indeed taken place about him coming back as Cage and that the results of these chats could “come into fruition faster than we think.”
The return of the Defenders
“Listen, I will say this, I’ve had conversations... and I’ll leave it at that,” Colter said. “I’ve had conversations,” he continued, “which before, I was... ‘no.’ Because when it wrapped... y’know I loved playing Luke Cage but I love acting and doing different things. So I just was like, ‘I’ll do something else.’ I love the fans and I love that world. And it’s been years now. So now, I’m doing other projects, but now I think to myself ‘I have some unfinished business there.’
The momentum for Cage’s return seems to be driven by the successful reintegration of his former teammates. Charlie Cox has already made his splash as Matt Murdock in various MCU projects, and Krysten Ritter is officially set to return as Jessica Jones in the second season of Daredevil: Born Again, which is scheduled to debut in March 2026. “Now I’ve reached the point where I’m like, ‘I have some unfinished business’ and I think Daredevil’s back so, c’mon... Jessica’s back,” Colter said.

While nothing is officially confirmed for a specific project yet, with Daredevil: Born Again already greenlit for a third season, there is a very real possibility we could see Luke Cage back on the streets of New York sooner rather than later. Come on, and bring back Finn Jones back for Iron Fist.
