Minecraft 2 Movie announced: Release date, details, and what we know

The blockbuster adaptation starring Jason Momoa and Jack Black continues its cinematic universe.

Update:

Warner Bros. has officially greenlit a sequel to the colossal cinematic hit, A Minecraft Movie. The follow-up, provisionally titled Minecraft 2, is now officially in development and is scheduled to premiere in theaters on July 23, 2027.

The decision comes hot on the heels of the original movie’s phenomenal performance earlier this year. The adaptation of the massively popular video game, which starred Jason Momoa and Jack Black, arrived in April and immediately shattered opening weekend expectations. It debuted to a stunning $162 million domestically and $312 million globally, quickly cementing itself as an instant theatrical sensation.

An impressive winning adaptation

Although the film was somewhat divisive among critics and fans, there is no denying its success, especially among younger audiences, making it one of Warner Bros.’s hits of the year, along with Sinners, Weapons, The Conjuring: Last Rites, F1: The Movie and Superman. The film maintained incredible momentum throughout the spring, ultimately concluding its box office run with a staggering $957 million globally. This puts it firmly in the position of the second-highest grossing Hollywood film of 2025, trailing only Disney’s Lilo & Stitch. For players and fans of the franchise, this immediate confirmation of a sequel ensures that the adventures within the blocky world will continue, rewarding their enthusiasm with a new, big-budget cinematic experience.

For now, details about the sequel are minimal, and we will have to wait and see if the original cast will be back to re-enter the world of Minecraft.
