Minecraft’s last call to migrate: How not to lose your account after the Microsoft acquisition
Mojang, the studio behind Minecraft, has announced the final date by which legacy accounts must be migrated in order to continue playing the game.
Mojang has issued a “last call” to users who still have legacy accounts to log into Java Edition. These accounts, which have been around since before Microsoft acquired the Swedish studio in 2014, will be closed, leaving players unable to play.
The migration process has been going on for some time, as the studio started this transition in October 2020. This mandatory process announced its first deadline for March 2022, but switching to a Microsoft account is still active.
What do I get when I change my Minecraft account to a Microsoft account?
In addition to being able to continue playing and having the incentive of an in-game layer, Mojang emphasizes these aspects:
How do I complete the account migration process?
Although the Minecraft team has an excellent guide to this process on their site, we will summarize it here, assuming you already have a Microsoft account.
How long do I have to migrate?
There are about 4 months left to complete this process, as of September 19, 2023, at 11:00 am EST, unmigrated Mojang accounts will no longer be able to login to Minecraft.net or the Minecraft Launcher to migrate. Additionally, as of September 5, 2023, support will no longer be able to assist with MSA migration-related tickets. So if you haven’t already done so, please do so before this date to continue to receive support in case something goes wrong.
