Banana! It’s official, the Minions are coming back with an upcoming sequel. Following the impressive success of the recent ‘Despicable Me 4′, with a $230 million debut at the global box office, Universal and Illumination have announced that they are already working on ‘Minions 3′.
‘Minions 3′ already has a release date
Although the movie has already been announced, it will not be released anytime soon. According to the official announcement (via Variety), the chosen release date for ‘Minions 3′ will be June 30, 2027. This is the same period that ‘Despicable Me 4′ had, the weekend before Independence Day.
For now, there are no details about the movie’s story beyond the fact that it will focus on the little yellow creatures that accompany Gru on his adventures. However, it has been announced that Peter Coffin, director of the first three ‘Despicable Me’ movies, the first Minions movie (and the voice of these characters) will return to the director’s chair. In addition, Brian Lynch, writer of Minions and The Secret Life of Pets, will serve as the screenwriter for this third installment. Chris Meledandri, CEO and founder of Illumination, and Bill Tyan are producing.
Another Illumination gem on the way
Animation studio Illumination has managed to position itself in the world of entertainment, becoming an ally of other major brands such as Nintendo. Last year, they achieved great success at the global box office with the debut of ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’, with a sequel on the way and one of the next releases scheduled for April 2026.
