Moira Animation Studio announces ‘Amelia’: a stop-motion short film inspired by Dungeons and Dragons
A fantasy adventure and journey of self-discovery that is seeking support on Kickstarter for its post-production.

A new Mexican studio is ready to demonstrate the potential of stop-motion animation made in their country. Moira Animation Studio, a collective of talented artists, has unveiled its first project: Amelia: An Epic Short Story, a short film that promises to take us on an epic adventure with a role-playing flavor and a lot of artisanal dedication. The announcement comes just as production enters its final animation phase, marking the start of a Kickstarter campaign with the clear goal of financing post-production and putting the finishing touches on this ambitious story.
A Little Hero with Big Dreams
Amelia: An Epic Short Story introduces us to Amelia, a little marten whose greatest goal is to prove her bravery. What begins as a mission to demonstrate her courage quickly turns into a journey full of challenges, fantastic creatures, and, most importantly, learning. The inspiration behind the short film is palpable. According to director Estefanía Calzada, the project is a “love letter” to role-playing games like Dungeons and Dragons, an experience that helped part of the studio stay connected and creative during the pandemic. The eight-minute short film captures that same excitement experienced by role-players: a journey of self-discovery that arises from a simple adventure.
The tone is a mixture of fantasy and adventure with a touch of comedy, seeking to reflect the vibrant imagination of a role-playing game. As Calzada comments, these virtual worlds allowed everyone to be “who we want to be.”
Art and Dedication Frame by Frame
Amelia’s distinguishing factor is undoubtedly her technique. Stop-motion requires incredible patience and attention to detail. The team at Moira Animation Studio worked for nearly a year on building the sets, puppets, and animation. Handcrafted sets and detailed puppets were created, with a visual style that accompanies the protagonist’s evolution. The director emphasizes the value of craftsmanship: “Every frame of Amelia has been built with love, dedication, teamwork, and the conviction that handmade stories can still move people.”
Currently, 50% of production is complete, and the Kickstarter campaign seeks to raise the remaining 30% of the budget for the post-production phase. To ensure quality, the studio will be supported by Sísmica Studio, renowned for their work in VFX and CGI, and Luis Enrique for sound design.

Rewards for those who support the project range from digital art and printable sets to create your own scale model scenery, to original props used in filming. If the goal is reached, post-production will begin in January 2026, with plans to start touring festivals at the end of that same year. Now is the time to support Mexican talent and their vision of stop motion.
