Sea of Thieves will release the first part of The Legend of Monkey Island on July 20th.
The Legend of Monkey Island is just a few days away from arriving in Sea of Thieves. The first of three free updates will be released to all players on July 20th. But how much care has been put into this transfer? Its developers promise a true paradise for LeChuk’s fans.
Nostalgia hits Monkey Island fans in Sea of Thieves expansion
Mike Chapman, the game’s creative director, told Xbox Wire that the team wanted to be extremely faithful to the scenarios of the legendary adventure game. The creative approach they took was to make it so that when you walk through the scenario in three dimensions, you can find exact points that are found in the originals, which allows you to compare them screen to screen.
“Players may find that in certain key locations, if you position your camera where it was in the original games, there are these hidden positions where you can hear a memory of Guybrush or Elaine narrating what happened at that moment in the original story,” he says. The director shares that this is more than just a nod to fans: “It will be part of an optional objective that encourages you to discover all the audio scattered around the island. If you complete it, you will receive special Monkey Island pictures to decorate your ship with.
The update also includes new features on the gameplay level. For example, Chapman reveals that the dialog system for NPCs has been improved so that they can now be fully voiced. Characters will now have AI-controlled routes that allow them to walk freely through the scenery, adding more atmosphere to the scenarios. All this without paying a single dollar.
We know that the expansion consists of three Tall Tales, accompanied by new scenarios, characters and cosmetics. From July 20 we will see the first part on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.
