Monster Hunter Wilds breaks the franchise’s record on Steam with its open beta

In more proof that Capcom’s Monster Hunter franchise cannot be stopped, the beta for Monster Hunter Wilds has crushed MH World’s concurrent player record.

Monster Hunter Wilds

If you’re one of the few people who hasn’t jumped on the chance to try out the Monster Hunter Wilds open beta, perhaps this may convince you: the short trial has already surpassed the concurrent player count record of Monster Hunter World, it’s predecessor, on Steam.

While the beta started off earlier this week on PlayStation 5 for PS Plus subscribers, the first Steam trial period started only yesterday, October 31. And in just a matter of hours players from all over the world flooded into the game’s Forbidden Lands to test out the next mainline game in the Capcom series.

At the time of writing this article, Wilds achieved an all time peak of 463,798 concurrent players just on Steam. While MH World has been insanely successful, being considered the most popular game in the Capcom franchise, its record on steam was “only” of 334,684 concurrent players at its peak. However, it’s important to understand that MH Wilds achieved that record on a Thursday, and with the weekend only just starting it’s still bound to keep growing.

When will the Monster Hunter Wilds Open Beta Test take place?

According to Capcom, the open beta test will consist of two phases: part one will be two days of early access for PlayStation 5 users (with a PlayStation Plus account), with the test starting on Monday, October 28th at 8:00 pm PT / 11:00 pm ET and ending on Wednesday, October 30th at 7:59 pm PT / 10:59 pm ET.

Part Two will begin on Thursday, October 31st at 8:00 pm PT / 11:00 pm ET and end on Sunday, November 3rd at 6:59 pm PT / 9:59 pm ET. This second part will feature cross-play, allowing PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC players to play via Steam.

This beta will allow players interested in playing Monster Hunter Wilds to access the character creator and also bring their creations into the full game, but not the progress we make. This beta will allow us to play through the tutorials and participate in the first major hunt, Doshaguma. Participants will receive a small bonus Palico pendant and a package of basic bonus items.

A few months ago, we had the opportunity to take a first look at Monster Hunter Wilds, and as we wrote about it at the time, we were completely fascinated: “we can say with confidence that Capcom has big surprises for players, since MH Wilds brings with it enormous changes in gameplay that almost completely change the Monster Hunter formula, without losing the essence that makes the franchise what it has been for more than 20 years.”
