Monster Hunter Wilds unleashes three gameplay trailers that show a bit more of what to expect

A few months ago, Capcom announced that they were working on a new mainline entry into their Monster Hunter series, which would aim to evolve everything we saw in their previous two titles (World and Rise) to levels never before seen in the franchise. As such, Monster Hunter Wilds has managed to create hordes of excitement among the fanbase without really showing off much more than a few teasers.

Now, the developers have deemed it fit to release three new trailers, each one sharing details about different new features and mechanics in the upcoming title. So what could be so different from the previous games that it would need its own explanation? How about an entirely new way to fight monsters with extreme precision?

Called “Focus Mode”, this new mechanic allows players to aim their attacks (or to defend) in whatever direction they actually want through an aiming mode that´s not really been present in the game other than for ranged weapons. From your lances to your greatswords, every weapon can now be aimed carefully to focus hits on a single point, which will now create wounds on your targets that can be hit for increased damage.

A second video regarding the game’s “basic mechanics” includes details on some of your additional tools when you’re out in the wilds hunting prey. The Slinger is back from MH World, still able to gather certain materials out in the world to use as ammunition of all kinds, and the grappling hook functionality is still available, although it is only shown being used to grab things towards you from afar.

More importantly, you also get a closer look at the Sekreit, a new animal companion that looks like a four-legged raptor which you can mount and store secondary weapons on. There will be mounted combat and quick traversal thanks to these awesome new creatures.

A third video is a deep dive that showcases how to correctly utilize one of the franchise’s most iconic weapons: the Greatsword. And just as showcased, if you want the classic Monster Hunter experience you have to try out this weapon class. It’s big, heavy, and extremely powerful, but demands patience and foresight of the user to be able to land its hits.

Monster Hunter Wilds still has no release date, but we know it’ll release in 2025 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
