Monster Hunter’s 20th anniversary Special Program gets an official date

Capcom is set to celebrate 20 years of Monster Hunter with a special streamed event happening next week.

Fans of Monster Hunter have a date to mark down on their calendars, as Capcom has announced a Special Program for the franchise’s 20th anniversary.

Taking place on March 12 at 4am PDT/ 6am CDT/ 7am EDT, this stream is Capcom’s way of celebrating 20 years of Monster Hunter. The announcement states that the stream will be a celebration, revealing the results of a previous survey that asked fans what the top 10 monsters of all time are. Besides that, we don’t know what else to expect.

Unfortunately, the studio has already confirmed that no news on future titles, including Monster Hunter Wilds, will be revealed during the stream. This event is solely aimed at celebrating the long history of the series, so it’s quite possible that we’ll see a variety of events being announced for current titles in the series. Monster Hunter Rise and Monster Hunter World have been on the rise lately, both with their respective expansions, with players flocking back into the games to quench their thirst for hunting huge beasts. On the other hand, the mobile version of the game, Monster Hunter Now, has also been growing steadily since its release last year. It’s possible we’ll see more of it during this event.

Monster Hunter’s explosive popularity

The first Monster Hunter game was released in Japan on March 11, 2004, as a PlayStation 2 exclusive. Thanks to its unusual and thoughtful mechanics, and its online capabilities allowed through the PS2 modem, it quickly became a huge hit in its home country. The game’s world attracted hordes of players looking for a challenge, with the monsters you fought at the forefront, each more amazing than the last. Since then, the franchise kept growing with new titles and even some spin-offs, constantly growing like its player community.

On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, the franchise is running some pretty hefty discounts on its games through Steam, with an anniversary pack that bundles together three of the latest games in the franchise with a 70% discount. It’s a great way of passing time while waiting for news on Wilds for those of us waiting hungrily like a Nargacuga in the shadows.
