More than 20 years later, Batman and Deadpool will star in the new crossover between Marvel and DC
This historic event kicks off in September with two special comics, and in 2026, there will be more surprises.
Two decades after their last major collaboration, Marvel and DC Comics are once again joining forces. And they do so with a truly explosive crossover: Batman and Deadpool will star in a new event that will mark the return of crossovers between the two biggest publishers in comics.
This has been announced exclusively by Entertainment Weekly, clarifying that this project is divided into two separate specials. The first, Deadpool/Batman, will be published by Marvel and will be scripted by Zeb Wells (Amazing Spider-Man, Deadpool & Wolverine) and art by Zeb Greg Capullo (Batman, Wolverine: Revenge). In it, Wade Wilson arrives in Gotham hired for a mysterious mission, but crossing paths with the Dark Knight was not in his plans. The issue will arrive on September 17.
The second comic, Batman/Deadpool, will be handled by DC and will reunite Grant Morrison (All-Star Superman, Batman & Son) with artist Dan Mora (World’s Finest, Klaus), reprising one of the most acclaimed creative duos of recent years. It is scheduled for publication in November. Both issues will include complementary stories that will pit other characters from both universes against each other, although details have not yet been revealed.
The first crossover between Marvel and DC in 22 years
The last time Marvel and DC launched a joint crossover of this magnitude was in 2003, with JLA/Avengers. As explained by the editorial heads of both houses, these types of collaborations are extremely complex on a creative and commercial level, which makes them happen only “once in a generation”.
But the best news is that it doesn’t end here. More one-shots are coming in 2026 that will expand the shared multiverse between Marvel and DC. For now, the creative teams and characters involved are still a closely guarded secret - will we see Spider-Man swinging through Gotham? Or Superman dealing with mutants? For now, the only sure thing is that this is just the beginning of something much bigger.
