Mortal Kombat 2 gives us our first look at Johnny Cage in a teaser for a movie we may never watch
Johnny Cage unleashes his fury in the lead-up to Mortal Kombat 2.
The Mortal Kombat reboot, set for release in 2021, is set to return after several years of waiting. Warner Bros. has fired up the hype train, and in the last few hours has unveiled new promotional material focusing on one of the most iconic stars of the Mortal Kombat universe: Jonathan “John” Carlton, better known as Johnny Cage, played this time by Karl Urban.
An “uncaged” marketing campaign
Warner Bros. has done a brilliant job of bringing Johnny Cage into the real world. The legendary B-movie action star arrives with everything from an IMDb profile listing his extensive, fictional filmography to a promotional poster for his upcoming movie, recently shared by Karl Urban himself on Instagram.
The Uncaged Fury poster is available -according to the caption- on VHS in video stores. Its aesthetics are very reminiscent of the first poster for Mission: Impossible with Tom Cruise, although clearly we are not here to make serious comparisons.
And if that wasn’t enough, through the official site of the Johnny Cage movie (yes, within the fictional universe), you can also see a teaser trailer with explosive scenes, exaggerated action and everything we could expect from the actor behind films like Cool Hand Cage, Hard to Cage and Rebel Without a Cage.
Mortal Kombat 2 trailer now has an official date
In the meantime, all these winks prepare us for what’s really important: the first official teaser for Mortal Kombat 2 will be revealed tomorrow, July 17, 2025. The movie, which promises to continue expanding the franchise’s universe with more action and fatalities, is scheduled to be released in theaters on October 24.
