Update:

The upcoming Mortal Kombat movie, Mortal Kombat 2, has once again changed its release date. But unlike its most recent change, which pushed back its planned October 24, 2025, release to May of next year, this change has been for the better.

Mortal Kombat 2 will now be released on May 8, moving up its theatrical release by one week from the previously set date of May 15. This move by Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema gives the film more time in theaters before the arrival of one of the most anticipated films of 2026, The Mandalorian and Grogu, which will be hitting theaters on May 22.

More Mortal Kombat is coming to theaters

Although Mortal Kombat 2 is still a long way off, Warner Bros. has already assured us that we will continue to be bathed in blood in the coming years. During his panel at New York Comic-Con, Gremi Slater, the film’s screenwriter, revealed that he is already working on the script for the third film, mentioning that New Line and Warner Bros. “are so convinced” that they have given him the green light for the next installment. “Our friends at New Line and Warner Bros. are so happy with this movie,” said Slater, who penned Mortal Kombat II. “They are so excited, they are so convinced that there is a giant fanbase waiting for it, they’ve already hired me to start writing the next installment.”
