Update:

After a patient seven-month wait following the initial teaser, Warner Bros. has finally pulled back the curtain on the second official trailer for Mortal Kombat II. While the production faced a significant hurdle last year—moving its original October release window to early 2026 (which was also brought forward by a week). The wait has been long, but it was rewarded this afternoon with the release of a new trailer.

The trailer centers on Johnny Cage’s introduction to the supernatural world of Earthrealm’s defenders. Unlike the stoic warriors we met in the 2021 film, Cage enters the fray with the skepticism of a Hollywood star, being a character who is more endearing to the audience. We can also take a look to other old favorites, like Raiden, Jax, Sonya Blade, Kano, and obviously, Scorpion. Beyond the character beats, some aspects of the story also stand out, such as the conflict with the Outworld, led by the menacing Shao Kahn, who declares that Earth belongs to him, as well as images that look like they came straight out of the video games.

The return of Mortal Kombat to theaters

Mortal Kombat 2 is directed by Simon McQuoid, director of the first film, and stars Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Mehcad Brooks as Jackson “Jax” Briggs, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, and Lewis Tan as Cole Young.
