Neither Blackpink nor BabyMonster, the K-Pop group of the moment is about to break the record for one of Ryan Reynolds’ worst films

Despite its poor reviews, ‘Red Notice’ became an instant hit on Netflix.

K-Pop Demon Hunters

Red Notice’ is an in-house production starring Ryan Reynolds, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and Gal Gadot. With such credentials, one would expect it to be a critical and commercial success, but it only achieved the former, scoring a mediocre 37% on Rotten Tomatoes. “As mindless entertainment based on silly jokes, a poor plot, visual effects, and facade, Red Alert is a 117-minute distraction, easy to forget halfway through,” says one review. This is the common feeling left by this film, which despite this has one significant achievement... that it is about to lose.

And indeed, ‘Red Notice’ was a hit among Netflix subscribers, and is in fact still the most-watched movie in the platform’s history. With 230.9 million views and 454.2 million hours in its first three months, it ranks first on both lists. A top spot that, however, will not take long to lose to the big phenomenon of recent weeks.

This is none other than ‘KPop Demon Hunters’, which since its release two months ago has reached 210.5 million views and 350.9 hours watched. There are no signs of fatigue since its release last June, so it won’t be long before it surpasses the mediocre film starring Reynolds, Johnson, and Gadot.

What is KPop Demon Hunters about?

Needless to say, ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ also surpasses Red Alert in its Rotten Tomatoes rating, and by a wide margin: 97%. Critics have praised the film for its “contagious energy and vibrant colors” as well as, unsurprisingly, its “fabulous soundtrack,” which includes songs that have become particularly popular, such as ‘Golden’ and “Soda Pop.”

“Korean pop superstars Rumi, Mira, and Zoey are part of the K-pop band HUNTR/X by day, but they have a secret identity as demon hunters by night,” reads the film’s official synopsis. “The famous singers always try to protect humanity, and especially their fans, from a dark supernatural threat and its soul-stealing demons. The latest threat is a rival boy band called Saja Boys, made up of five demons in disguise with an ulterior motive.”

The film has been so successful that a sequel has already been confirmed, which aims to explore the origins of the HUNTR/X group. “What is it about these girls that attracted them to HUNTR/X and turned them into demon hunters? What is their backstory? How were they chosen? What is that journey like?” said the film’s director, Chris Applehans, recently.
