Neither Darkseid nor Lex Luthor: the villain for the sequel to Superman, Man of Tomorrow, has been confirmed
Superman and Lex Luthor will have to join forces to combat the threat posed by Brainiac.

A few weeks ago, James Gunn shared an image from the draft of ‘Man of Tomorrow,’ and fans were quick to speculate about the clues left by the producer, director, and head of DC Studios. The most obvious, at least on the surface, is that he almost confirmed that the villain of the film, the great threat against which Kal-El and Lex Luthor will have to join forces, would be Brainiac. Today, in an article in The Wrap, this has been 100% corroborated.
Also, a few days ago, the casting description for this villain was leaked by Nexus Point News. “Makeup and prosthetics will be used for the film’s antagonist. In addition, actors with a strong build and height are sought for the role,” although, to be honest, this fits a good handful of villains in the DC universe.

“Listen, of course I wasn’t unaware that when I posted the cover of the script that there was going to be discussion around that particular topic. But I think we’ll hold off from what exactly is happening,“ Gunn said at the time. Brainiac has already appeared in several productions such as ‘Smallville’ and ‘Krypton,’ but this will be his debut in Gunn and Safran’s DCU. Meanwhile, fans speculate that his presence will be connected in some way to the ending of the second season of ‘Peacemaker.’
Who is Brainiac in the DC Universe?
Brainiac made his debut as one of Superman’s greatest antagonists in issue 242 of Action Comics, which came out a full 20 years after issue 1, which marked Superman’s first appearance in comics. Brainiac is presented as an android or an alien, depending on the universe he finds himself in, whose goal is to travel to gather knowledge. Although at first glance he appears to have noble intentions, the origin of his name indicates that nothing could be further from the truth, as it is a combination of “brain” and “maniac.”

Meanwhile, a month ago we enjoyed his impressive debut in the Absolute universe, featured in issue 7 of Absolute Superman, a space horror volume full of explicit scenes that surprised fans.
When will Superman: Man of Tomorrow be released?
Superman: Man of Tomorrow is scheduled to premiere on July 9, 2027, almost exactly two years after the original. David Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult, and Rachel Brosnahan will reprise their roles as Superman, Lex Luthor, and Lois Lane, respectively, although new characters are expected to debut, as well as several cameos.
