Neither Goku, nor Broly, nor Bardock: Toriyama clarifies who the Legendary Super Saiyan is

There is a legend that is much older than those of the most popular characters in Toriyama’s work.

If you go out on the street and ask people who the Legendary Super Saiyan is, chances are that the names of Son Goku, Bardock, or Broly will come up. However, those who bet on them will be proven wrong, as the true identity of the legend was revealed by Akira Toriyama himself a few years ago.

Though many consider it a myth, the legendary Super Saiyan is real. Well, it would be more accurate to say that he existed, since he lost his life a long, long time ago. However, his identity is something that obsessed even the God of Destruction himself, Beerus, who did not hesitate to study the Saiyans to discover everything about the legend.

Yamoshi is the name of the original Super Saiyan. Or what is the same, the mysterious Legendary Super Saiyan. In “Dragon Ball: Battle of the Gods”, Beerus is searching for the warrior in question, so it is implied that there is someone else with that title besides the deceased Yamoshi. In truth, he was not misguided, as Akira Toriyama confirmed a few years ago that Yamoshi’s spirit could live on in someone capable of following his path: the Super Saiyan God.

Yamoshi lived on the planet Vegeta and although he was a Saiyan, his heart was straight and he was able to distinguish between good and evil. He was defeated in battle after being greatly outnumbered, so his powers were exhausted and he could do little to survive. But his death was only the beginning of the myth.

Goku’s Successor Is Neither Goten Nor Gohan

This revelation is much more recent than that of the Lagendarian Super Saiyan, as it took place in the 103rd chapter of ‘Dragon Ball Super’, which was released just a few weeks ago. To ensure the future of Earth’s inhabitants, Goku was eager to find someone capable of inheriting his baton, but instead of choosing the warriors that almost everyone would have bet on, he chose his granddaughter, the daughter of Gohan and Videl!
