Warner Bros. Games
Update:

The battle for television and cinema in Hollywood has begun. Netflix’s bid to buy Warner Bros. and Paramount Skydance’s counteroffer for Warner Bros. Discovery will be one of the topics we will be closely following over the coming months. This will have a significant impact on movies, television series, and streaming... but what about video games? Although it has not been mentioned, it is worth remembering that Warner Bros. Games is part of the complete package that either company could acquire, with the rights to games featuring DC Comics characters, Mortal Kombat, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, LEGO, and much more.

However, Netflix has admitted that within “the grand scheme of things,” it had not fully considered the gaming aspect. During a recent meeting with investors, they were asked how the purchase of Warner Bros. could improve the success of the streaming service’s efforts in video games.

Netflix admits WB Games was not a priority in its bid for Warner Bros.

“While they definitely have been doing some great work in the game space, we actually didn’t attribute any value to that from the get-go because they’re relatively minor compared to the grand scheme of things,” said Gregory Peters, Co-CEO, President & Director of Netflix. “Now we’re super excited because some of those properties that they’ve built, Hogwarts is a great example of that, have done quite well, and we think that we can incorporate that into what we’re offering. They’ve got great studios and great folks working there. So we think that there’s definitely an opportunity there. But just to be clear, we haven’t built that into our deal model.”

A complicated sector within Warner Bros.

Although Hogwarts Legacy became one of the best-selling titles, surpassing Call of Duty in its launch year, the rest of Warner Bros. Games’ portfolio has not been as successful. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League did not live up to expectations, Monolith Productions canceled Wonder Woman, and Multiversus said goodbye when it was just getting started. At least we have the arrival of Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight to look forward to, which will combine two of the most successful franchises they have had in recent years.
