Netflix denies Duffer Brothers’ request for Stranger Things 5 theatrical finale
The Duffer brothers pitched a theatrical finale, arguing for shared fan experience and full audiovisual quality.

The fifth and final season of 'Stranger Things' is about to arrive. Well, the beginning, because the series will be arriving in blocks starting on November 26, and on three dates until the end of the year. And although during this long development period, there has been talk of each episode being like a movie, there are no plans for Hawkins to hit the big screen, despite the wishes of its creators, the Duffer brothers.
In a recent interview with Variety, Ross and Matt Duffer discussed the end of the series after more than 10 years since its premiere. During the interview, they revealed that at one point they asked Netflix for the possibility of bringing the series finale to theaters. And although, as Matt Duffer rightly points out, bringing something to the big screen is not something Netflix usually does, it is not something it has never done or plans to do. It should be remembered that in August it brought ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ to theaters for a sing-along theatrical event, and that it plans to distribute Greta Gerwig’s 'Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew’ in theaters.
“People don’t get to experience how much time and effort is spent on sound and picture, and they’re seeing it at reduced quality,” Matt says. “More than that, it’s about experiencing it at the same time with fans.” Sin embargo, Netflix’s chief creative officer, Bela Bajaria, considered that fans rather watch it at home. “A lot of people — a lot, a lot, a lot of people — have watched Stranger Things on Netflix,” Bajaria said to Variety. “It has not suffered from lack of conversation or community or sharing or fandom. I think releasing it on Netflix is giving the fans what they want.”
