Netflix has a new series, and it’s already number one in 29 countries: a fast-paced thriller with a perfect score
Netflix shows no signs of slowing down when it comes to releasing new series, with many of them becoming major hits with both critics and audiences. And 2026 has gotten off to a strong start with several record-breaking series and miniseries. However, the popular streaming platform has just released a new Norwegian thriller that is taking the world by storm, in addition to earning a perfect score from the specialized press. It’s ‘Harry Hole,’ a fast-paced series featuring ritual murders, detectives, action, and mystery that is already the top-rated show in 29 countries, as noted by the website FlixPatrol—and climbing.
‘Harry Hole’ is Netflix’s latest sensation
Premiering on March 27, ‘Harry Hole’ quickly climbed to the top of the charts in numerous regions, reaching the number 1 spot in 29 countries yesterday and ranking 4th in the United States; and all signs point to it continuing to climb the charts throughout this week. What’s more, this new series based on the famous series of novels written by Norwegian author Jo Nesbø has achieved a 100% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, making it the thriller series of the moment.
That said, fans of the book series on which “Harry Hole” is based shouldn’t worry, since the show has started by adapting the fifth novel in the series, so we still don’t know exactly what Netflix has planned for this franchise, as it hasn’t been announced as a single-season miniseries. And given the success of this first season, it’s more than likely that they’ll continue adapting Jo Nesbø’s novels in future seasons.
“When a series of ritualistic murders hits Oslo, a gifted detective must navigate a puzzle of patterns, corruption and his own demons to catch the killer,” according to the official synopsis of a series starring Tobias Santelmann, Pia Tjelta, Ellen Helinder, Anders Baasmo, Kåre Conradi, and Simon J. Berger, which also features two Hollywood stars in its cast: Joel Kinnaman and Peter Stormare.
