Netflix is preparing spin-offs for ‘Peaky Blinders’, ‘Stranger Things’, ‘The Witcher’, ‘Wednesday’, and more

Netflix is ready to get covered in its most successful series, planning a future that mimics the biggest Hollywood studios with infinite universes constantly growing.

Peaky Blinders

‘Stranger Things’ will end with its fifth season, but the Hawkins universe will continue to be developed in other productions. Netflix wants to take an approach more similar to that of the big Hollywood studios, so its strategy is to focus on ever-expanding sagas. The ‘Stranger Things’ spin-offs are already underway, and as reported by Bloomberg, there’s also two productions related to ‘Peaky Blinders’ in the roadmap.

One of the spin-offs of ‘Peaky Blinders’ will be set in Boston, in the middle of the 20th century, a few decades after the original series. The other one will focus on Polly, the matriarch of the Shelby clan, whose original actress, Helen McCrory, passed away in 2021.

‘Wednesday’ has also been confirmed for a second season, but the platform is planning a spin-off starring Uncle Fester, played by Fred Armisen. Although the writers already have a story, they still have to set a filming schedule and find the full cast, so there is no guarantee that it will come together. Even so, Netflix is very willing to continue exploiting ‘The Addams Family’.

‘The Witcher’, ‘The Army of the Dead’, and ‘Extraction’ are some of the other titles that will also continue branching out into full franchises.

‘The X-Files’ will return in the future

It’s been 30 years, 30 long years since ‘The X-Files’ revolutionized television. The science fiction series starring agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) left an indelible mark on an entire generation, a legacy that has survived to this day and that Disney now intends to revive. The Mickey Mouse giant is developing a new version with Ryan Coogler (director of ‘Creed’ and ‘Black Panther’) as producer.

The truth is that the news was somewhat buried, but was officially confirmed by Chris Carter, original creator of the series, in the podcast ‘On the Coast with Gloria Macarenko’, back in March 2023. Neither Mulder nor Scully will be there, so it will possibly be a completely new story.
