Netflix’ ‘One Piece’ producer reveals details about Dr. Kureha in the live action series and Jamie Lee Curtis’ situation
Jamie Lee Curtis declared her love for ‘One Piece’ and her desire to play Dr. Kureha in the live-action series, but a producer has an update about that.
The ‘One Piece’ live-action adaptation on Netflix is revealing more and more details about its long-awaited second season, and one of the most anticipated was the confirmation of the actor who will play Dr. Kureha. The desire of fans of Eiichiro Oda’s work was to see Jamie Lee Curtis in the role of this charismatic character, with even the actress herself dropping that she would love to participate in the series, but in the end, this will not be the case.
Becky Clements, executive producer of the series, recently spoke with Deadline about Jamie Lee Curtis and her possible participation: “She loves the show. She has too many films and TV shows that she’s going into production on so our production dates aren’t going to work. She definitely wanted to do it but she’s got deals in first position, and it just became complicated.”
While this tidbit of information is like a bucket of cold water to fans that hoped to see Curtis in the role, Clements also revealed that they already have someone to fill the role of Kureha, and that they “have found an amazing person.”
‘One Piece’ and the future of its live-action on Netflix
Becky Clements not only talked about Dr. Kureha, but also highlighted the plans for the live-action and its extension over six seasons: “We have those plans. Matt Owens has it in his head, it’s just a matter of our partners who’ve been amazing, wanting to keep moving forward, but we are creatively prepared, I’ll say that.”
The executive producer also highlighted that Eiichiro Oda himself has returned to work directly on the production, so fans can rest assured that a second season will greatly expand the world of ‘One Piece’ on Netflix.
