Netflix uncovers the first teaser for ‘Splinter Cell: Deathwatch’, an animated series of the stealth franchise

Sam Fisher is infiltrating Netflix through its own animated series, recently revealed through its Geeked Week event.

The latest Netflix Geeked Week event has left us with many advances of what is about to arrive on the platform, such as the second season of ‘Squid Game’, or the new ‘Devil May Cry’ animated show and a new ‘Cyberpunk ′ project. In the case at hand, Sam Fisher takes the reins in this new animated series based on the Splinter Cell series by Ubisoft. Titled ‘Splinter Cell: Deathwatch’, this original work has just revealed its first teaser.

The teaser in itself is very brief, but it hints at several details of the plot, including that it will be set after Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (2005), the third title in the franchise that is considered by many the best in the series. In the teaser you can see the grave of Douglas Shetland, a close friend of Sam Fisher who in reality was behind a conspiracy that sought to overthrow the United States government and establish a new world order. Shetland died at the hands of Fisher in the game, and this series looks like it will explore the immediate consequences of his death through flashbacks.

The animation has a clean and defined style, and in the video clip a brief glimpse of an older Sam Fisher with a full beard can be seen, hence it is possible that there are two timelines: the present, and the past, with flashbacks set in 2007-2008, the era after Chaos Theory. Also, emphasis is placed on the use of darkness, Fisher’s faithful ally in video games, so we could be looking at the extensive use of lightplay in the color palette.

Liev Schreiber provides his voice for Fisher. Michael Ironside, his usual VA, is not returning for this project. No release date has been announced for this new animated series; with only a “coming soon to Netflix” being shown.
