New Baldur’s Gate 3 series announced for HBO from co-creator of ‘The Last of Us’
Larian Studios, the developers of the video game, are not involved in the project.

Craig Mazin, co-creator of ‘The Last of Us’ and showrunner of Chernobyl, will take charge of a series that will continue the story of Baldur’s Gate 3, the acclaimed video game from Larian Studios. In collaboration with HBO and Hasbro Entertainment, the new production is already in development and will feature Mazin as showrunner, screenwriter, and executive producer.
According to Geoff Keighley, organizer of The Game Awards and Summer Game Fest, Larian has informed him that the studio is not involved in the series. Be that as it may, this production will not revive the story of the video game, but will take place immediately after the events narrated in the title. There will be familiar characters, but also new protagonists.

Passion for video games
Craig Mazin is a video game enthusiast who has enjoyed Baldur’s Gate 3, which led him to immerse himself in this project: “After putting nearly 1000 hours into the incredible world of Baldur’s Gate 3, it is a dream come true to be able to continue the story that Larian and Wizards of The Coast created,” he said. I am a devoted fan of D&D and the brilliant way that Swen Vincke and his gifted team adapted it.” The showrunner is eager to bring this story to television and is grateful to have been given the opportunity to work with this IP.
The showrunner will have creative freedom when developing the story, which will be based on Larian’s video game, not on the Baldur’s Gate games developed by BioWare. They will take into account the beginning and end of the third installment to start developing stories that follow on from it.

Jacqueline Lesko, Cecil O’Connor, and Gabriel Marano (the latter from Hasbro Entertainment) will serve as executive producers, while Chris Perkins, former head of Wizards of the Coast, will be a consultant on the series.
