New Elden Ring DLC trailer dives into the story of Miquella and the Land of Shadow

With only a month to go before release, FromSoftware has released a new story trailer for Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, with the most mysterious figure of the game at the forefront.

It’s almost time to dive back into Elden Ring, as the upcoming expansion Shadow of the Erdtree is set to release on June 21, 2024. FromSoftware knows this, and as such has released the second trailer for the add-on, which focuses heavily on the story that sets up our visit to the Land of Shadow.

While the trailer is completely CGI, with no explicit gameplay footage to be seen (unlike the expansion’s reveal trailer), it still manages to showcase a wide variety of locations that players are sure to be able to explore once we get our hands on it. As previously announced, Shadow of the Erdtree will see players travelling to the Land of Shadow, another region ravaged by seemingly a different war that has come under the control of a powerful and fiery demigod of whom we had not heard yet. There’s imagery of sacrifices, fire-related rituals, and cultures we have not met yet, which all points to some exciting additions and new features for the game.

However, most important of all is the apparent presence of Miquella, one of the most mysterious figures in all of Elden Ring. Their presence was felt throughout the tarnished’s adventure in the base game, and yet our only glimpse of him was as a victim of his half brother, Mohg, deep below the earth in a shrine to an outer deity.

Will we see Miquella the Kind in his original form? Or has he shed his old body to become something else, like Ranni? We’ll have to wait only one more month for the expansion to release to find out. In the meantime, don’t forget to take a look at the various editions in which this add-on will be available, including an amazing Collectors Edition that comes with a statuette of the title’s big bad.
