New God of War on the way? Santa Monica Studio drops hints about next game

The latest job offer from Sony’s studio makes us think about new installments of the franchise.

It’s been less than a year since the release of God of War Ragnarok, one of the best PS5 games, but Santa Monica Studio is not resting on its laurels and is already working on new projects. Obviously, no details have been shared in this regard, but the latest job offers from Sony’s studio have caught the attention of fans of the series of Kratos and Atreus.

The fact that a video game studio is constantly looking for new talent for its future projects is the most normal thing in the world. In fact, it does not necessarily indicate that a company is about to announce new titles, as sometimes they decide to expand their workforce for the long term. However, things change when job postings come with very specific requirements, as is the case with Santa Monica Studio.

“Must have knowledge of God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarok (2022) and be able to speak in depth about the combat systems, mechanics, and enemies.” This is the part that set off all the alarms among fans of the franchise, as the mention of two specific installments gives us reason to believe that the team could be developing a new God of War for PS5. It is not a definite clue, as it could be a completely different game that shares elements with the aforementioned titles.

God of War Ragnarok sets the bar very high

We don’t know if Santa Monica’s next game will be a new God of War, but it will be hard to beat God of War Ragnarok, the latest installment in the God of War saga. The title, available on PS5 and PS4, scored a 94 on Metacritic and went head-to-head with Elden Ring for GOTY 2022, although the award ultimately went to From Software’s game.

At MeriStation we were delighted after finishing the journey of Atreus and Kratos; our colleagues in Spain gave it a 9.5 out of 10, saying that “it is the clear example of how a sequel to a successful game should be approached: it is not only a more and better, but it is a title that does not tremble when it comes to making weighty decisions (playable and narrative) and getting most of them right”.
