New image from Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ gives best look yet at Matt Damon as Odysseus

The Odyssey, Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, is shaping up to be one of the biggest cinematic events of 2026. Along with the almost guaranteed success that Nolan’s name brings, the project combines an epic source material with a truly star-studded cast. Filming is currently underway, and while we wait for the first trailer, we’ll have to make do with a few images — but this latest one of Matt Damon is arguably the best so far.

The now veteran actor, 54, will portray Odysseus, and in the newly released image, we can see him fully dressed as the legendary Greek hero.

Unfortunately, we don’t see him fully in character or in action just yet — he’s simply waving at what appears to be crew members or perhaps onlookers near the set. As of now, there’s still no official trailer in sight, though a brief teaser has already leaked, along with some footage featuring Tom Holland (who plays Telemachus, Odysseus’s son) and Jon Bernthal (as King Menelaus).

Expectations for this film are sky-high, as evidenced by the fact that pre-sale tickets open tomorrow — a full year ahead of the movie’s release. The Odyssey is set to hit theaters on July 17, 2026.
