Update:

The Pokémon Trading Card Game is just days away from saying goodbye to the Scarlet & Violet series and welcoming the new Mega Evolution series. Looking ahead to the future, The Pokémon Company has revealed that we will have more Mega Evolutions ahead of us with the first expansion of the series, Phantasmal Flames.

More Mega Evolutions are on the way

Phantasmal Flames will focus on bringing us more Fire-type and Dark-type Pokémon, and with them come two of many fans’ favorite Mega Evolutions, Mega-Charizard X and Mega-Gengar. In addition to this, new Pokémon ex cards will be joining this series for the first time.

As previously revealed, the Mega Evolution series brings back an extremely powerful group of Pokémon. These cards will have higher HP, high-damage attacks—even more than conventional ex Pokémon—and new game effects. However, to maintain competitive balance, Mega Evolution ex Pokémon will award three prize cards when defeated. One important change is that it will no longer be necessary to go through all the previous evolutionary stages, so it will now be possible to Mega Evolve a Riolu directly into Mega Lucario without going through Lucario.

What cards can we expect from Phantasmal Flames?

  • Six Mega Evolution Pokémon ex
  • Four Pokémon ex
  • 13 illustration rare Pokémon
  • 17 ultra rare Mega Evolution Pokémon ex, Trainer and Energy cards
  • Five special illustration rare Mega Evolution Pokémon ex and Supporter cards

On the other hand, it was announced that prior to the physical release of this set, players of the Pokémon Trading Card Game Live will be able to access these cards starting November 13, 2025, with a pre-release on November 1. The official release will be on November 14, 2025.
