New Mortal Kombat 1 Trailer Confirms Smoke and Rain as Playable Characters

Extensive gameplay from Mortal Kombat 1 introduces us to the characters of the Lin Kuei clan... and new Kameos.

Mortal Kombat 1

NetherRealm Studios has released a new Mortal Kombat 1 trailer that focuses on the Lin Kuei clan and, in addition to showing us more of Scorpion and Sub-Zero, introduces two new members of the group that will be playable: Rain and Smoke. The former repeats his participation after Mortal Kombat 11, while the latter returns to the saga after his absence in the previous installment.

Mortal Kombat 1 roster continues to grow

Both are, as it could be, the main protagonists of the video, being the new confirmed characters, although they are old acquaintances of the franchise. However, in the case of Smoke, he wasn’t only missing in the last iteration, but also in Mortal Kombat X, being his most recent presence in Mortal Kombat, the 2011 game. His debut was in Mortal Kombat 3, and since then his appearances have been really irregular.

In addition to these two protagonists, we see several Kameo fighters such as Cyrax, Sektor, Frost and Kung Lao. The latter also appears as a playable character, so we should not rule out the first three taking on this role in the final version of the game. In fact, one of the Kameo characters already confirmed is Johnny Cage, and... Can anyone imagine a modern Mortal Kombat where we can’t control him?

Recently, our colleagues in Spain were able to access a closed beta of the game, thanks to which they were able to enjoy their first fights with a game that seems essential for fans of the franchise... and the genre. “We don’t know if Mortal Kombat 1 will be the fastest game in the history of the saga, but what is clear is that it is several revolutions ahead of Mortal Kombat 11″, our colleagues mentioned in their impressions. “This is achieved not only thanks to more fluid animations in each character, but also an unusual variety of movements in all of them, which makes few lack resources, and we face fights that rarely exceed, approximately, 120 seconds in duration.”
