Nintendo announces its return to Gamescom 2023 after a four-year absence

Nintendo confirms its presence at Gamescom 2023, which will take place in Cologne, Germany next August.

Nintendo Gamescom

After being absent from the European trade show for the last four years, Nintendo will return to Gamescom 2023 this year. This was announced by the organizers, who undoubtedly celebrate the presence of the Kyoto-based company, since in recent months it has been common to confirm absences, such as all those that led to the cancellation of E3: Sony, Microsoft, EA, and Nintendo itself, for example.

“We are excited to announce that Nintendo will be exhibiting at Gamescom 2023!″, said the German Association of the Video Game Industry. “Many more exhibitors will follow in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!”

The last time Nintendo was present at Gamescom was in 2019, and the following year, 2020, they were absent for obvious reasons when the coronavirus pandemic completely shook our lifestyle. Last year, despite not being present in person, the company organized a parallel Treehouse where they focused mainly on two games: Splatoon 3 and Harvestella.

What is Nintendo planning?

This confirmation is curious because, by the time Gamescom 2023 takes place between August 22 and 27, the two most important releases among those announced for Nintendo Switch this year will have already arrived in stores. One is, of course, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which will be released on May 12, and the other is Pikmin 4, which will be released on July 21. This is a good framework to present the games that will be coming out in the fall and early winter.

Gamescom will kick off with a big event like Opening Night Live, a gala hosted by the ubiquitous Geoff Keighley. We hope it will be the beginning of a new phase of rebirth for the Bavarian trade show, as the organization has announced that 10% more companies are registered than last year, 2022.
